About ERin Lyman
ERIN E. LYMAN
I obtained my B.A. at Bowdoin College
and my M.A. in Education Administration at Columbia University, Teachers College.
Most recently I served as the Director of College Counseling at Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA.
Before my time at Berkshire, I worked as a College Counselor at Northfield Mount Hermon School and Groton School.
I've also worked in admissions at Bowdoin College, Columbia University and the University of Vermont.
I've been a member of (NACAC) National Association for College Admission Counseling and attended and presented at professional conferences throughout my more than twenty-year career. I am also a member of the (HECA) Higher Education Consultants Association.
I'm always excited to join friends and colleagues to discuss the current trends in college counseling, and have been recently featured on Dartmouth College Admissions' "The Search Podcast."
I've learned a ton from the experience of working on both sides of the college process. From the hours spent reading applications and advocating for students in committee, to my role as the athletics liaison at UVM, to the nearly thousand students and families that I have helped find their best fit, I have a "soup to nuts" understanding of the process.
I believe strongly in a student-driven, family-supported process. I feel extraordinarily fortunate to get to work with incredible young adults at such a critical moment in their educational futures.
WHY "FOX ISLANDS"?
The Fox Islands of Maine are made up of the island communities of Vinalhaven and North Haven, which sit some 15 miles off the coast.
My very first exploration into educational consulting and policy began during my time at Bowdoin College, exploring the school systems of these unique and special communities.
These island communities are deeply supportive of their youth and that is reflected in the countless artists, congressmen, judges, writers, musicians, ambassadors, engineers, teachers, professional athletes and hard working, civically engaged community members that they have produced.
I feel a similar dedication to knowing, supporting, encouraging and celebrating the qualities of each and every student I have a privilege with which to work.
The Fox Islands are also a community that I feel lucky to call home, and a place where I proudly choose to raise my son. They serve as my home base to serve families all over world.
